Health Canada has fined two Canadian pharmacies for selling an antibiotic that could lead to life-threatening bacterial infections, Health Minister Francois Chirghun said Thursday.
Health Canada, the provincial government’s health ministry, said the antibiotics used in the production of the antibiotic Augmentin were not registered with the drug regulator in the country.
“The Minister of Health has announced today that Augmentin is being used to treat bacterial infections in Canada.”
The antibiotics are among the drugs used to treat the respiratory tract infections, including pneumonia and sinusitis, in people at high risk of suffering such infections.
